Tasting Notes
A Rioja inspired red blend, made from two estate grown Spanish varietals; Graciano and Tempranillo. This year’s blend is 52% Graciano & 40.5% Tempranillo with just a splash of Shiraz. The resulting medium-bodied wine is a combination of black cherry and lifted spice aromas, the palate is well structured with ample tannin and acid to age for many years.
Winemaker's Notes
Woody Nook Wines G&T 2023 was made from two separately fermented parcels of estate grown fruit; 2.95 tonne of Graciano hand-picked on the 17th & 18th April, 2023 at 12.1° baumé and 1.1 tonne of Tempranillo machine harvested on the 23rd March, 2023 at 13.5 ° baumé. The Tempranillo was cold soaked for three days before inoculation with Clos yeast and fermented for eleven days on skins (including 5% whole bunches) in an open fermenter with daily pump overs before pressing to stainless steel to complete malo-lactic fermentation (MLF). The Graciano was inoculated with Clos yeast and fermented on skins for eight days in small open fermenter with twice daily hand plunging and pump-overs before pressing to tank for malo. After careful blending, the wine was aged in older French, Hungarian and American oak barriques for five months maturation before fining, filtration and finally bottling in December 2023.
