G & T 2020

A Rioja inspired red blend, made from our two Estate grown Spanish varietals; Tempranillo and Graciano. This year's blend is 63% Graciano, 37% Tempranillo.   The result is a full-bodied red combining cherry and spice aromas with savoury and earthy characteristics. The palate is well structured with ample tannin and acid to age for many years. 

Winemaker's Notes  

Woody Nook Wines G& T 2020 was made from two separately fermented parcels of Estate grown fruit; 6.769 tonnes of Tempranillo hand-picked on the 20th February, 2020 at 13.6° baume and 2.304  tonnes of Graciano hand-picked on the 26th March, 2020 at 13.4° baume. The Tempranillo was fermented for seven days on skins across three separate open fermenters with daily pump overs before pressing to tank to complete ma lo-lactic fermentation (MLF) then maturation in 29 second-use barriques for eighteen months. The Graciano was fermented on skins for seven days in small-batch 1 tonne bins with daily hand plunging, inoculated with EnartisFerm ES488 yeast before pressing to new Hungarian (Kadar) and second-use French oak barriques for MLF and eighteen months maturation. The wines were then blended and cross-flow filtered before sterile filtration to bottle in July 2021.
