Earlier accolades
In 2011 Woody Nook received two trophies when 'Gallagher's Choice' Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 won 'Best WA Red Wine' and 'Best Boutique Wine of the Show' at the Blackwood Valley Boutique Wine Show. This wine also received a Gold Medal from the 2011 Melbourne Royal Wine Show and a Silver Medal from the Qantas Wine Show.
Internationally in 2011, Woody Nook's Shiraz 2008 won a Bronze Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London. At the 2011 International Wine Challenge, our 'Killdog Creek' Cabernet Merlot took out a Silver Medal and our 'Gallagher's Choice' Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 a Bronze. This latter wine was also awarded a Silver Medal at the 2010 International Wine & Spirit Competition in the UK.
2009 saw Woody Nook receive three trophies – for our Cabernet Sauvignon 2007. In addition to a gold medal, this wine was awarded a trophy for the ‘Best Australian Dry Red Wine, Cabernet Sauvignon’ at Australia’s second largest wine show, in Rutherglen, Victoria. Shortly afterwards we learned that the judges at the Australian Cool Climate Wine Show in Murrumbateman had not only awarded this wine a gold medal but also a trophy for the ‘Best Cabernet Sauvignon’. In the same week, we were advised by the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London that it had won a 'Best in Class' Gold Medal there too, plus the Warren Winiarski Trophy for the Best Cabernet Sauvignon. All those accolades are in addition to being voted ‘Best in Class’ by Winestate Magazine in a recent Cabernet tasting; being a runner-up in the ‘Best Estate-Grown Red Wine’ category at the Western Australian Wine Industry Association’s Awards in November 2008, earning a Silver Medal at the 2010 International Wine Challenge and a Commended medal at last year's Decanter World Wine Awards . The judges at the International Wine & Spirit Competition made these notes about this wine: "Saturated glossy crimson red colour. Wonderful briar/bramble and mulberry fruit aromas, coupled with notes of cigar box, vanillin, and smoke. Beautiful precise fruit definition in the mouth with super fine-grained tannins and a silver thread of minerality which couples with lovely cedary integrated oak and notes of herb and more juicy fruit. Wonderfully sculptured, this is a hedonistic and very serious wine indeed."
'Gallagher's Choice' Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 amassed an amazing medal count, 16 in total, 6 of which were Gold. Unfortunately, there are no stocks left.
