Tempranillo 2024

Woody Nook Wines Tempranillo 2024 is a contemporary, vibrant and aromatic example of this Spanish varietal. 6% whole bunches in the ferment add Turkish Delight and black jube aromatics that enhance the palate of stewed black fruits supported by just a hint of French oak, allowing the fruit to be the hero.

Winemaker's Notes

Woody Nook Wines Tempranillo 2024 was made from 4.35 tonnes of Joliffe block tempranillo (planted in 2007), hand-picked (270kgs) and the balance Selectiv machine harvested on the 22rd February, 2024 at 13.4° baumé. 6% whole-bunches were placed in the bottom of the open fermenters with the balance destemmed over the top, inoculated with CLOS yeast and fermented for twelve days on skins with a combination of twice daily pump overs and hand plunging before pressing to stainless-steel tanks to complete primary alcoholic fermentation and malo-lactic fermentation. Older Hungarian oak barriques in combination with the addition of new Oenosylvia French oak staves in tank (15% new oak equivalent) helped enhance the oak aromatics, the pH of 3.70 was deliberately left high to showcase the chalky tannins with the tempranillo fruit being at the fore, the addition of 5% Graciano adding the acidity. Fining, cold stabilization and filtration were carried out before the addition of grape juice concentrate (2 grams per litre residual sugar) to plush out and balance the palate, followed by bottling in December 2024.

342 dozen were produced.
