G & T 2021

A Rioja inspired red blend, made from our two estate grown Spanish varietals; Graciano and Tempranillo. This year's blend is 58% Graciano, 42% Tempranillo.   The resulting medium-bodied wine is a combination of cherry and spice aromas with savoury and earthy characteristics.   The palate is well structured with ample tannin and acid to age for many years. 

Winemaker's Notes  

Woody Nook Wines G& T 2021 was made from two separately fermented parcels of estate grown fruit; 1.06 tonnes of Graciano hand-picked on the 7th April, 2021 at 13.2° baume and 0.73 tonne of Tempranillo machine harvested on the 23rd March, 2021 at 13.5° baume. The Tempranillo was inoculated with Clos yeast and fermented for thirteen days on skins in an open fermenter with daily pump overs before pressing to tank to complete malolactic fermentation (MLF) and maturation with oak staves for eight months.   The Graciano was cold soaked for three days before inoculation with Clos yeast and fermentation on skins for ten days in small open fermenters with twice daily hand plunging before pressing to second-use Hungarian oak barriques for seven months maturation.   The wines were then carefully blended before fining, filtration and finally bottling in December 2021.   Only 97 dozen were produced.
